THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg's Luke Kowalski (Derwood, Md./St. John's College) wrestled to a third-place finish at the NCAA Div. III Southeast Regional hosted by York (Pa.) and will make his second trip to the national tournament. As a team, Gettysburg finished 14th with 36 points.

THE LEADERS
Luke Kowalski opened with a 2-minute, 13-second fall over Alvernia's Anthony Portillo before falling 16-7 in the quarterfinals to Delaware Valley's Ryan Kelly. In the consolation bracket, Kowalski pinned Averett's Daniel Porter 23 seconds into the second period to advance to Saturday. His second day opened with a 16-0 first-period technical fall over David Rubin (Washington and Lee). In the consolation semifinal, Kowalski pinned Wilkes' Jack Bauer in 1:36 to face Portillo again with the national bid on the line. Kowalski did what he did the day before and pinned his foe in 3:20.
FOR THE FOES
• Stevens won the regional championship with 181 points, outdistancing Alvernia by 26.5 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Heath Rudolph (Winchester, Va./Roanoke) went 2-2 at 157 for the Bullets. His weekend started in the preliminary bracket, falling in his opening bout to Wilkes' Charles Everdale, 3-0. Rudolph then made his way into the main bracket with a 16-0 first period technical fall over Penn State-Behrend's Zachary Edwards. Rudolph then edged Ferrum's Christian Hite 8-7 before Garret Cornell (Messiah) pinned Rudolph in 5:36.
Phil Nave (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also went 2-2 for Gettysburg. His weekend at heavyweight also started in the preliminary bracket, dropping his opening bout to Averett's Jamar Christian, 12-3. Nave then made his way into the main bracket with a pin late in the first period of Jackson Shumate (Roanoke). Nave added a second pin, downing Southern Virginia's Igor Lakicevic in 3:54 before falling to the eventual third-place finisher, Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon, 8-3.
Jake Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) opened his day with a 7-2 win over Southern Virginia's Xavier Jukes before dropping a pair of major decisions in the main bracket at 141.
Justin Richey (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) was pinned by James Geiger (Wilkes) midway through the first period in the opening round before recording a pin of his own in the consolation bracket at 165, downing Washington & Jefferson's Logan Marko in 3:49. Richey's day then ended with a 13-5 loss to King's Frankie Theroux.
Russell Canova (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) also opened with a pin right at the end of the second period in the preliminary bracket at 184. He was then pinned by Frank Medina (Stevens) in the first period and dropped an 11-8 decision to Jaden Roberts (Delaware Valley).
• At 197, Brendan Loder (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) dropped an 11-5 decision to Ferrum's Braden Homsey in his first bout. In the consolation bracket, Loder defeated Nico Williams (Washington & Jefferson) 4-2 before falling to Delaware Valley's Daniel Eckley, 3-2.
