Gettysburg travels to Rhode Island College for opening weekend of NCAA tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Gettysburg will travel to Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I., for the 2024 NCAA Division III women's basketball first and second rounds, beginning on Friday.

The Bullets (24-3) earned an automatic bid into the field of 64 with its fifth Centennial Conference (CC) title, defeating Johns Hopkins 64-55 on Sunday in Baltimore.

Gettysburg is making its 11th NCAA tournament appearance and its sixth straight. The Bullets will take on St. John Fisher in Friday's first-round game at 5:30 p.m. The host Anchorwomen will play St. Joseph (Maine) in the second game at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in Saturday's second round at 7:30 p.m.

This will be just the second all-time meeting between Gettysburg and St. John Fisher. The Cardinals (23-4) won the Empire 8 title by a 66-55 margin over Houghton on Saturday. The teams previously met in Gettysburg on Jan. 3, 2017, which the Bullets won, 67-45.

Rhode Island College (27-0), ranked third in the latest D3hoops.com poll, won the Little East championship 67-52 over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday while St. Joseph (21-7) claimed the GNAC title 85-72 over St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday.

Sophomore Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) leads Gettysburg in scoring at 15.1 points per game while junior Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) is second in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (5.1 rpg). Arnolie is tops on the team with 72 3-pointers and 44 steals while adding 58 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. Szlosek has 54 assists and 32 steals while shooting 49.4 percent from the floor and 46.1 percent from long range with 47 triples.

Sophomore AB Holsinger (Crozet, Va./Langley) leads the team with 82 assists and is scoring 7.0 points per game. She also has 26 steals and 31 3-pointers. Junior Shinya Lee (Rochester, N.Y./Holderness Prep School), who earned the CC tournament most outstanding player honors, leads the team in rebounding (8.0 rpg) and blocked shots (55).
