THE REST OF THE STORY
• Lara Baki staked Washington and Lee to a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the game before
Michaela Kelly responded just 42 seconds later to tie the game. A Betty Boatwright advantage goal made it 2-1 with 11:30 showing but
Lauren O'Connell (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) responded with an advantage goal of her own three minutes later to tie the game off a feed from
Julia Daly. Daly then ripped off a natural hat trick, scoring with 4:52 to play in the first and 1:10 showing for a 4-2 lead.
• Daly capped the personal three-goal run with 13:27 on the clock before Kelly notched her second of the day less than a minute later for a 6-2 advantage. Emma Marsh and Katie Reed went back-to-back 24 ticks apart to cut the deficit in half. Kelly and
Emily Crane (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) sandwiched a Caroline Foster tally to make it 8-5 with 6:28 remaining. After Hannah Van Son once again made it a two-goal game,
Sarah Scollin (Orefield, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) found the back of the net then found
Grace Battle (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal Academy) for a 10-6 halftime lead.
• Battle – after scoring 31 seconds before halftime – needed just 29 seconds in the third quarter to make it 11-6 before Crane notched her second with 13:10 showing for a 12-6 lead. Reed momentarily halted the run but
Sophie Smith (Great Falls, Va./Langley) scored twice in a minute to stretch the lead to 14-7 midway through the period. After Boatwright and Scollin traded tallies, the Generals netted two goals in 53 seconds to close the margin to 15-10. Crane once again finished from Daly just before the quarter ended to right the ship and give momentum back to the Bullets going to the final 15 minutes.
