Chase Straub enters his sixth season as an assistant baseball coach at Gettysburg College in 2015-16. He also serves as the College's Campus Recreation Coordinator.
In his first five seasons on staff, Straub has helped the Bullets achieve vast improvement. After a 12-win season in 2011, the squad finished 25-13 and narrowly missed qualifying for the Centennial Conference Tournament the following year. Then in 2013, Gettysburg went 30-13, broke the school record for wins in a season, and reached the Centennial Conference playoffs for the first time in six years. The Bullets went on to post an even more impressive season in 2014, finishing 33-8 to reset the program record for victories while winning 23 straight games at one point. The Orange and Blue also went 15-3 in league play, reached the Centennial Conference championship game for the first time in program history and earned a national ranking for six straight weeks late in the year.
Straub, a 2007 Gettysburg graduate and a former baseball player for the Bullets, returned to the Battlefield following a stint with the Major League Baseball (MLB) Public Relations Department.
During his stay with Major League Baseball, Straub was involved in numerous facets of the office’s PR functions, including the launching and developing of MLB’s official Facebook Fan Page. He also monitored the website daily and composed related content while posting press releases.
A native of Perkasie, Pa., Straub was a four-year letterwinner for the Bullets and served as a captain during his senior year. The same season, he was a Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection after batting .385 to finish second among the Bullets. A rightfielder, he led Gettysburg with 55 hits and was second in runs (31) and RBIs (28) while helping the team to a Centennial Conference playoff berth and an overall record of 26-13, as the Bullets tied the second-highest win total in program history.
For his career, Straub finished with 109 hits, including 20 doubles, two triples, and three home runs, along with 65 RBIs and 69 runs over 130 games and 123 starts. Following his senior year, he was awarded the first-annual Lou Gehrig Award for courage.
Straub, an avid golfer, earned his Master of Education degree in Sports Management & Recreation from Springfield College in 2009. At Gettysburg, he graduated with a degree in sociology.
