Doug Sage

Doug Sage enters the third season of his third stint with the men's lacrosse team at Gettysburg College. He was promoted to associate coach for the 2012-13 season.

Sage, who serves as the defensive coordinator, also coached the Bullets from 2007-08 and in 2002.

In 2011 Sage helped coach the Bullets to an outstanding defensive season, as Gettysburg finished with a Centennial Conference-leading 6.97 goals-against average. The team was also second in the conference with 10.11 caused turnovers per game and held all but three opponents to under 10 goals.

Sage served as an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology in 2010 and at Drew University in 2009. At Stevens, he helped guide the Ducks to a record of 9-6 and a 5-3 mark in the Empire 8. One year earlier, he helped Drew finish 9-8 and 4-2 in the Landmark Conference. The Rangers qualified for the Landmark playoffs and reached the ECAC championship game.

From 2007-08, Sage was the defensive coordinator as the Bullets finished a combined 33-6 and 14-2 in Centennial Conference games. In both years he coached a Centennial Conference Player of the Year in goalie Pat Vaughan ’07 and defenseman Andrew McGann ’08. Vaughan was also the NCAA Division III Goalie of the Year in 2007 while McGann captured the Division III Defenseman of the Year Award in 2008. In 2002, Sage helped the Bullets go 17-2 (6-0 CC), win the Centennial Conference title, and reach the Division III national championship game for the second year in a row while holding the post of offensive coordinator.

Sage has also coached at numerous other lacrosse programs at various levels. He spent two years at Ridgewood H.S., helping his alma mater to the 2000 New Jersey state finals. From 2002-06, he was the director of athletics at Immaculate Heart Academy (IHA) in New Jersey, serving as the head girls’ lacrosse coach in 2003 before taking over as the head boys’ lacrosse coach at St. Joseph’s Regional H.S. from 2004-06. Sage also works as the coach and director for Next Level Lacrosse and Gamerz Lacrosse.

A former Bullet lacrosse player, Sage was a midfielder and team captain in 1998. He helped Gettysburg to Centennial Conference titles in 1995 and 1998 and played for teams that reached the NCAA Division III semifinals in 1995 and 1997.
