Bill Pfitzinger is entering his 26th season as a member of the Gettysburg coaching staff in 2014-15, having served two years as an assistant coach with the men’s tennis team prior to becoming the women’s head coach in 1992.

Pfitzinger has guided the women’s tennis squad to a program-record 207 wins (207-133) during his 23 seasons at the helm. Gettysburg has won at least 10 matches in a season seven times under Pfitzinger’s direction, including a 10-7 record in 2009-10. His 1996 squad notched a program-best 19-1 record and claimed the program’s only Centennial Conference team championship.

After guiding the Gettysburg women’s team exclusively from 1992 to 1997, the 1962 graduate of Roanoke College also assumed the men’s head coaching duties in 1997. In the process, he became only the third head coach in the men’s program since 1962, following Bob Hulton (1962-89) and Dave Wright (1990-97). Prior to becoming the head women’s coach in 1992, Pfitzinger was an assistant with the men’s program from 1989-91, helping the Bullets to a 30-12 record.

Since taking over the men’s team, Pfitzinger has guided Gettysburg to a record of 119-128. During his debut season, the Gettysburg doubles team of Brandon Cutter and Weston Wells won the Centennial Conference doubles championship, the program’s first doubles title in 20 years.

At Roanoke, Pfitzinger lettered four times in both tennis and soccer, playing first singles in tennis three of his four years there. He graduated with a degree in political science.
