Elizabeth Stanton enters her second season as a men’s and women’s assistant track & field coach at Gettysburg College in 2014-15.
During her first year with the Bullets, Stanton helped the Orange and Blue to a number of solid performances as the team's multi events and vertical jumps coach. Gettysburg's women's team placed fifth at both the Centennial Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships, marking the program's top finish at both meets since 2010. During the indoor season, she and the Gettysburg staff coached Taylor Flatau '15, who broke the school record and finished fourth in the pentathlon at the Centennial Conference Championship. Under Stanton, Flatau also finished sixth at the indoor conference meet in the high jump, as did Steve Avino '16 in the same event for the men's team. During the outdoor campaign, Stanton coached Danielle Bernini '15 to a fifth-place finish in the high jump at the Centenninal Conference Championship.
Stanton came to Gettysburg from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., where she spent two years as an assistant for both the cross country and track & field programs. In track, she served as the short sprints, horizontal jumps, and hurdles coach for both the men’s and women’s teams and helped one athlete qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. She also helped the women’s team finish second at the 2012 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Indoor Championships and third at the 2012 MAC Outdoor Championships. In addition, Stanton served as the head recruiter for both the men’s and women’s track & field teams.
A Cincinnati native, Stanton has also made numerous coaching stops in Ohio, including Capital University (2010-11), Withrow High School (2009-10), and Skyhawks Sports Academy (2008-11). At Capital, her alma mater, she was also the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships Coordinator, overseeing all administrative duties pertaining to the national event.
Stanton, who owns a USTFCCCA Level One Coaching Certification, was also a standout student-athlete at Capital, where she was the school’s first female All-American. She would go on to earn four All-America certificates – two in the long jump and two in the 4x100 relay, which finished third at the 2009 national meet. She was named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year in 2008 and won the Capital University Distinguished Senior Leadership Award in 2009. Stanton graduated from Capital in 2009 with a bachelor of arts degree in health and fitness management and a minor in health education.
