Susan Konstalid has turned the Gettysburg College women’s golf team into an annual front-runner in the Centennial Conference. In Konstalid’s 15 seasons, the Bullets as a team have won 75 events, including 10 conference titles (2008, 2011-19) in addition to qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championship six times.
Konstalid led Gettysburg to its ninth consecutive CC championship in 2019, marking the longest streak of Centennial titles in department history. The Bullets finished 25 strokes ahead of their nearest competitor and placed two golfers on the all-conference team.
Konstalid led Gettysburg to its seventh consecutive Centennial Conference championship in 2017. The Bullets shattered the championship tournament scoring record with 638 over two days, including a program-record breaking 311 on the final day of competition. Gettysburg featured the individual conference champion for the eighth time in 10 seasons and claimed the Rookie of the Year for the second time in three seasons. Four Bullets were named All-CC First Team. Gettysburg bested its previous season scoring average by 12 strokes with 335.5 strokes per round.
Gettysburg qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship for the fourth year in a row and posted the best performance in program history with a 13th-place finish in 2017.
Gettysburg won its first conference title with the greatest comeback in championship history in 2008, erasing an eight-stroke lead to win by 10 strokes. After several near misses, the team returned to the top of the conference in 2011 and it has not relinquished the position. In 2014, Gettysburg made its first appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship.
Individually, the Bullets have thrived under Konstalid’s tutelage with 27 all-conference selections, eight CC Players of the Year, two CC Rookies of the Year, and three Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Konstalid has been named the CC Coach of the Year on six occasions. Over the last 11 seasons, the Bullets have earned individual medalist honors at 67 events, including 11 in 2016-17.
A 1987 graduate of Penn State University, Konstalid was a four-time letterwinner at the NCAA Division I and II levels, earning three with the Nittany Lions from 1985-87 and one with Division II Florida Atlantic University in 1984. In 1985, she helped Penn State to its first and only appearance in the NCAA Championships as the team recorded a 17th-place finish.
Konstalid, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., began her golf career by playing for Bishop Grimes High School’s boy’s team in East Syracuse, N.Y., earning the team’s MVP award as a senior. After graduating from Penn State with a degree in accounting, she continued her golf career as a teaching professional and is certified as an amateur player by the United States Golf Association. Konstalid competes regularly in amateur tournaments and instructs local juniors during the summer.
Konstalid and her husband Daniel have two sons, Tyler and Kevin.
