Dougherty posted an outstanding sophomore campaign that was capped by a stellar performance at the NCAA Division III Championships. At the national meet, Dougherty became the first men's swimmer at Gettysburg to earn All-America honors in three individual events at the same championship, placing seventh in the 50-freestyle, 13th in the 100-freestyle, and 14th in the 100-breaststroke. He was a First Team All-American in the 100-free and an Honorable Mention All-American in both the 50-free and 100-breast. Earlier in the season, Dougherty was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the Centennial Conference Championships, where he won three individual events to lead the Bullets to their sixth-straight conference title. He captured NCAA "B" cuts in all three of his winning events while also swimming on a pair of winning relay teams.
