Bremer, Milliman erupt again, lead top-ranked Bullets past F&M, 14-5

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) and Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Brighton) combined for nine goals and four assists as No. 1 Gettysburg wrapped up its regular season with a 14-5 victory at Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Bremer, who scored five times against Dickinson on Wednesday, tied a career high with six goals against the Diplomats (8-6, 3-3 CC) to help the Bullets (12-1, 6-0 CC) wrap up their fifth straight undefeated CC regular season.

Gettysburg and F&M will meet again in the CC semifinals on Friday at Musselman Stadium. Game time is 1:30 p.m.

Milliman, who dished out five assists against the Red Devils, set up three goals on Saturday and scored three others to continue his assault on the Gettysburg record book. The senior attackman is four points shy of Costa Alvanos (213 points from 1982-85) for second place on the program's all-time points list.

Bullet goalie Tim McGinnis (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) made nine saves while lowering his goals-against average to 5.49, the best mark in Division III.

Mike Sartorius made 11 saves for the Diplomats, who got goals from five different players on the afternoon.

Despite the nine-goal final margin, F&M stayed close into the third quarter.

Behind one goal and one assist apiece from Bremer and Milliman, the Bullets built a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter before the Diplomats rallied to within 5-4 thanks to goals from Beau Smith, Bas Solleveld and Bryan Nolan in a span of 5 minutes, 8 seconds.

Fifty-nine seconds after Nolan's marker, however, Nick Purkat (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) finished a solo effort to give Gettysburg a two-goal lead at the break.

F&M's Colin Hanley cut the lead to 6-5 just 2:33 into the third quarter, but the Diplomats wouldn't solve McGinnis again.

Wes Cadman (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored unassisted with 8:39 left in the third to start a 4-0 run to the end of the quarter. Bremer found the net two more times during the stretch, including a goal off a set-up from Milliman with seven ticks left that made it 10-5.

Bremer's fifth and sixth goals highlighted a 4-0 fourth quarter that set the final margin.

Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) finished with three assists while Purkat tallied two goals and one helper on the day.

Gettysburg, which entered the week ranked first in the nation in scoring defense, held Dickinson and F&M to a total of one second-half goal for the week.

As in 2001, the Bullets will host the CC playoffs on Friday and Sunday. Gettysburg opens its quest for a fifth consecutive conference title against the Diplomats on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
