Bullet Spikers Finish 2-2 at Salisbury Invite, Mercier Tabbed All-Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team dropped its seventh straight game at the Salisbury Invitational with a 30-26 setback to New Jersey City University in the teams' opening contest, but the Bullets bounced back with three wins to pull out a 3-1 decision in their final match of the two-day tournament and finish with a 2-2 record.

Gettysburg (10-5) made just one hitting error in each of the final three games against New Jersey City (12-4), winning those contests 30-25, 30-24, and 30-26. Sophomore Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) finished with 11 kills against the Knights to close her weekend with a team-high 40 kills and All-Tournament honors.

Senior Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) led the Bullet attack with 13 kills against New Jersey City, while Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) poured in eight and seven, respectively. Sophomore setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) paced the squad with 36 assists and added a dozen digs.

Defensively, sophomores Jade Dunhour (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Mekenna Sigai (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep.) led the way with 23 and 21 digs, respectively, each number marking career highs for the second-year players. Stephanie Rickabaugh added 15 digs and two total blocks.

In Saturday's opening contest, Gettysburg dropped a 3-0 decision to Centennial Conference rival Johns Hopkins University (15-3) 30-26, 30-25, and 30-17. Errors plagued the Bullets as the team made 18 hitting miscues in addition to eight during serve-receive and 13 on blocks. Mercier led the offense with nine kills, while Krampf tallied 21 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) paced the defense with 16 digs.

Gettysburg returns to Bream Gymnasium for its next Centennial Conference contest against Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m.
