Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Nick Sottung threw six innings of shutout ball and Ithaca scored the first 12 runs of the game as the Bombers defeated Gettysburg 12-3 in a non-conference baseball outing Friday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.

Ithaca (4-6), which out-hit the Bullets 15-7, was led by Rob Raux, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Matt Samela, who was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

Senior first baseman Matt Stillitano (Ewing, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) went 2-for-4 with a double for Gettysburg (7-10) while sophomore designated hitter Kevin Langhauser (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) was also 2-for-4.

Sottung limited the Bullets to four hits while striking out five and walking three. In the meantime, the Bombers plated three runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings off Gettysburg starter Will Kleva (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City), who worked 5 1/3 innings while dropping to 2-1 on the season. Junior Chris Liegel (Oak Ridge, N.J./Pope John XXIII) came on to throw 1 2/3 innings, giving up three runs in the seventh, before freshman Matt Karis (Southborough, Mass./Noble & Greenough School) fired a pair of perfect innings, striking out two.

It was a 12-0 game when Gettysburg got on the scoreboard with a two-run seventh. Senior centerfielder Sean McGee (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and freshman shortstop Chris Simard (Lexington, Mass./Belmont School) drew back-to-back walks leading off the inning and moved up on a wild pitch before scoring on an error.

The Bullets recorded their final run in the eighth, when Stillitano led off with a double to right-center and scored on a groundout two batters later.

Gettysburg concludes its five-game homestand on Monday, when it hosts SUNY Oneonta in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
