GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team turned in another impressive defensive showing against Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, Oct. 7, holding the Dutchmen to just five shots and one corner kick in a 2-0 victory. Freshman Casey Attanasio (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and senior Kerry McKenna (Sharon, Conn./Kent School) each found the scoring column for the Orange & Blue, which improved to 6-3-1 this fall.

Gettysburg earned its seventh shutout in 10 matches this fall without too much trouble. Lebanon Valley (5-6-1) managed three shots in the opening half and two in the second, with only one on goal. Sophomore goalie Allie Rivera (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River), the reigning Centennial Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, made her only save in the 53rd minute on a weak dribbler by Megan Sager.

Offensively, the Bullets turned in a dozen shots with seven on goal. Attanasio gave the hosts the lead in the 38th minute, taking a through pass from senior Kelly Vigna (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and racing past a pair of defenders to the goal. The Dutchmen goalie, Sami Young, came out to meet the challenge, but Attanasio knocked the ball over the keeper and connected with the bottom of the crossbar. After bouncing straight down initially, the ball eventually broke the plane of the goal for the Gettysburg freshman's third goal of the fall.

McKenna added some insurance in the 66th minute off a pair of quick passes. Freshman Lindsey Lyons (Hatfield, Pa./Pennridge) kicked the ball in the box from the right side where junior Jordann Smak (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) immediately touched it with her left foot to the far left post. McKenna was in the right place at the right moment and kicked the ball home for her fourth goal.

Gettysburg resumes its conference schedule on Saturday, Oct. 10, with a road trip to nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
