Bullets Blast Two Foes at the Beach

Erin Ober hit two doubles and a home run on the final day of the Beach Blast.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Gettysburg College softball team completed a four-game sweep at the two-day Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Blast with a pair of victories on Saturday. The Bullets opened with a 6-2 win over Randolph College and closed with a five-inning 13-0 decision over Baruch College.

Senior Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) continued her hot start to the season with a pair of extra-base hits against Randolph, knocking her first home run of the season and adding a double. She also tied a career mark with three RBI and finished the four-game set with a team-best seven base hits.

Sophomore Caitlin Bay (Flemington, N.J./Flemington) added two hits against Randolph, while freshman Adrienne Rahs (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) plated a pair of runs. Senior Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) improved to 2-0 on the mound after allowing six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

A day after tying the school record for strikeouts in a game, junior Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) fanned nine in the five-inning win against Baruch. She allowed only two hits and one walk. McCullough also helped herself with a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with her first career home run and first career double.

Junior Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) also cranked her first longball of 2009 with Ober, seniors Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), and Jessica Wallick (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) each adding doubles and junior Ali Iacobucci (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) posting two hits.

Gettysburg resumes its schedule below the Mason-Dixon Line with eight contests in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from March 9-12. The Bullets open on Monday, March 9, against Seton Hill University and Penn State Berks at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
