GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team kicked off the 2009 season in dominating fashion Tuesday night, racking up 17 aces in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-9) victory over visiting Lancaster Bible College inside Bream Gym.
Gettysburg's (1-0) service ace total was its highest since putting up the same number against York (N.Y.) College in 2009. On top of that performance, the Bullets also knocked down 31 kills on 58 attempts with only six errors (.431) at the expense of Lancaster Bible (0-1).
Senior
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) notched seven kills on eight attempts, while junior
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) also put down seven kills to go with four aces. Junior transfer
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) added six kills and a pair of aces.
Senior
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) dished out a match-high 18 assists and posted four aces and sophomore
Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) added five helpers and three aces, the latter coming in the team's final five points of the night. Senior
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) accumulated six digs to lead the Bullets' defensive effort.
Gettysburg will get right back to business tomorrow (Sept. 2) with another home date against Hood College. Start time inside Bream Gym is 7 p.m.
