WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored the game-winning goal 4:33 into overtime, giving No. 13 Gettysburg a 2-1 victory at Catholic University in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday afternoon.

Gettysburg, which is now 5-0 for the second straight season, outshot (13-9) and out-cornered (11-4) the Cardinals (3-1) but had to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit after Meredith Chandler scored with 13:41 left in the opening period for Catholic.

The Bullets, playing their first road game of the season, received a break when they were awarded a penalty stroke just over five minutes into the second half, but senior Vanessa Pabon had her shot saved by Cardinal goalie Marian Cassilly. Gettysburg finally broke through when sophomore Sarah Cole (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) converted a feed from senior Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) with 16:06 on the clock.

Catholic threatened in the game's final minutes, with Chandler taking two potential game-winning shots. But she hit the post with 1:57 to go, and her shot with 49 ticks showing was saved by senior Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./The Calverton School).

The Cardinals took their only shot of the extra session just 15 seconds in, but Anderson came up with another save. Hearn took a shot 2:44 into the period, then set up Emala's game-winner just under two minutes later. Emala's two goals this season are both game-winners.

Cassilly finished with five saves while Anderson stopped three shots.

Gettysburg was playing in its first overtime game since its season-opening 4-3 win at Eastern Mennonite University last season.

The Bullets kick off their Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday, when they visit No. 8 Johns Hopkins University at 1 p.m.
