Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg trailed fifth-ranked Ursinus College by just two goals with less than 10 minutes to go, but the Bears erupted with four late tallies and the Bears came away with a 7-1 victory in Centennial Conference field hockey action Friday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Alyssa Thren scored five goals to lead Ursinus (7-1, 4-0 CC) while Jennifer Bayzick had one goal and one assist.

Sophomore goalie Megan Feeg led the Bullets (4-4, 2-2 CC) in goal with a career-high 19 saves, the most at Gettysburg since Jessy O'Neill had 22 in 2003.

The Bears took a 3-0 halftime lead on two goals from Thren and one from Megan Yoder in the opening period, when they outshot the Bullets 18-0.

Gettysburg pulled to within two when junior Martha Tahsler scored with off a rebound just under two minutes into the second half. It would remain a 3-1 game well into the period, thanks in large part to Feeg, who turned aside 11 shots in each half.

Ursinus would outshoot the Bullets 22-2 in the second stanza, and the Bears put the game out of reach in the final 9:26, when Thren punched in three goals to go with a Bayzick tally.

Gettysburg continues its season on Wednesday, when it hosts Elizabethtown College at 4:30 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
