Big First Half Lifts No. 3 Messiah Past Field Hockey

Falcons Score All Six Goals in First Half

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Messiah College scored all six of its goals in the first half and the third-ranked Falcons defeated Gettysburg College 6-0 in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday evening.

Messiah (10-2), which received goals from five different players, won for the sixth game in a row. Amber (Philpot) Good scored two goals for the Falcons while Julie Barton had one goal and two assists.

Sophomore Megan Feeg finished with six saves for Gettysburg (5-7), which was playing a top-five program for the third time in its last five games.

The Falcons were quick to strike, as Barton scored just 1:35 into the contest. Good followed up with back-to-back tallies 1:42 apart five minutes later to make it 3-0 before Barton assisted on consecutive goals, setting up Emily Hursh with 20:05 left in the half and Kourtney Ehly with 16:30 showing. Brooke Sands set the final score when she converted a feed from Kilee Rosenberry with 6:01 remaining in the opening stanza.

Messiah outshot Gettysburg 13-0 in the first half before holding an 8-3 advantage in the second half.

Molly Gebrosky made both of her saves in the second half while earning the shutout in goal for the Falcons.

Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference play on Saturday, when it visits Washington College at 1 p.m.
