SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After playing back-to-back-to-back five-set matches, the Gettysburg College volleyball team needed a good, quick win, and the Bullets pulled it off against a strong team in Susquehanna University Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (12-12) had split five-set matches with St. Mary's (Md.) College (L, 2-3) and Johns Hopkins University (W, 3-2) before seeing a 2-0 lead dissipate to visiting Gallaudet University just last night in a 3-2 loss. The Bullets took care of business at Susquehanna (18-10), however, dispatching the host Crusaders 25-17, 28-26, and 25-21.
Junior
Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) posted her fourth-straight double-double effort with a15 kills and 17 digs. Senior
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) chalked up nine kills and two block assists, while classmate
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) posted eight kills and three service aces.
Freshman setter
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) orchestrated the offense with 32 assists in addition to serving six aces and putting up 12 digs. Junior libero
Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) recorded 17 digs and two aces.
Emily Carson and Marie Clair Llareus posted 11 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead Susquehanna.
Gettysburg resumes action this Friday, Oct. 15, with a Centennial Conference contest at Washington College at 7 p.m. The Bullets and Shorewomen will be participating in the conference's fifth annual Digging for a Cure campaign to help in the fight against breast cancer. The two squads are taking donations and pledges for each dig they record in the match, with all proceeds being donated to Living Beyond Breast Cancer in Haverford, Pa.
