SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior
Nicole Meredyth scored both of Gettysburg's goals and Bullet head coach
Barb Jordan recorded her 100th career win as the field hockey team earned a 2-1 Centennial Conference victory at Swarthmore College Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (7-8, 5-3 CC), which picked up its 10th straight win over Swarthmore (6-10, 3-5 CC), outshot the Garnet 20-8 but Swarthmore goalie Katie Ashmore kept it close with 11 saves.
The fourth head coach in the Gettysburg field hockey program's 62-year history, Jordan joined each of her three predecessors as members of the 100-win club. She is now 100-68 in her ninth season at the helm. Ironically, she picked up her 100th victory just minutes from her hometown of Media, Pa.
It was the first career multi-goal game for Meredyth, who scored what held up as the game-winner just under five minutes into the second half with an unassisted tally. She also put the Bullets on the scoreboard 12:05 into the game on an assist from freshman
Liz Baron.
Swarthmore pulled even with 6:29 remaining in the opening half, as Sophia Ferguson scored off a feed from Sophia Agathis.
Sophomore
Megan Feeg made four saves in goal for Gettysburg, including two inside the final six minutes.
The Bullets return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Dickinson College at 3 p.m. in a Centennial Conference affair.
