Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College attack turned in its standard effort with 17 goals and the defense was near perfect, forcing visiting Swarthmore College into 30 turnovers and notching its second-ever shutout against a Centennial Conference opponent on Saturday afternoon at Clark Field.

Coming off its first loss of the year to No. 10 Middlebury College on Tuesday, second-ranked Gettysburg (8-1, 3-0 CC) took out its frustration on Swarthmore (5-2, 0-2 CC) early by firing off 24 shots in the opening half and holding the Garnet to just 3-of-12 on their clear attempts. Senior Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown) kicked off the scoring barrage with back-to-back goals at 26:03 and 23:34, the first assisted by classmate Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich).

At 14:38, junior Marnie Commins (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) began a career day on the offensive end by handing out the first of three consecutive assists to freshman Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms). Commins' fourth assist to Stahl opened up a 10-0 lead at 10:32 and her fifth helper of the half to senior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) at 4:40 gave the hosts a 14-0 lead heading into the second half.

Gettysburg switched up personnel in the second half and maintained the shutout despite six of Swarthmore's seven shots coming in the period.

Saturday's effort was the eighth shutout in school history by the Bullets', and the second against a Centennial foe. Gettysburg also posted a 17-0 decision against Bryn Mawr College during the 2008 season.

Stahl finished the day with four goals and moved into ninth on program's all-time list with 182 career points. She filled the stat sheet in the game, adding to her offensive numbers with three ground balls, four draw controls, and five caused turnovers. Commins finished with a career-high seven points on one goal and six assists. Sophomore Hannah Church (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales) and senior Erin Cushing (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) each scored three times, the former adding an assist for a four-point day.

Defensively, Gettysburg was active from each end of the field and finished with a season-high 20 caused turnovers, while holding Swarthmore to just 8-of-25 on clears. Junior Becky Lutz (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) led the effort with five caused turnovers and five ground balls, in addition to corralling three draw controls. Senior Anna Scanlan (Lutherville, Md./Roland Park Country Day) tallied one caused turnover and four ground balls, while senior Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) added one caused turnover and three draw controls.

Senior Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) started in the cage for Gettysburg and picked up the win with one save in 40:23. Junior Laura McIntyre (Glenmoore, Pa./Coatesville) preserved the shutout with one save in the final 19:37.

Gettysburg returns to the field on Wednesday, March 31, for a non-conference game at Cabrini College. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
