MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The bats were swinging and connecting in the Gettysburg College softball team's season debut as eight players tallied a hit in a 7-3 victory over King's College Sunday morning. Sophomore
Adrienne Rahs (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) posted a pair of hits, including a two-run homer, and three RBI for the Bullets.
Gettysburg's (1-0) bats were rolling in support of starting pitcher
Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead), who overcame some control issues to earn the complete-game victory. She walked five and hit a batter, but limited King's to just six hits with eight strikeouts. McCullough is now just one strikeout shy of 300 for her career.
Rahs was one of five Bullets with at least two hits. Freshman
Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and junior
Megan Lott (Bellsville, Md./Pallotti) each finished 2-for-4 with two runs at the top of the order, the former posting a stolen base and the latter knocking out a pair of doubles and driving in a run.
Freshman
Sam Bader (York, Pa./Central York) posted hits in each of her two official at bats and plated a run, while senior
Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Gettysburg has eight more games over the next four days at the Snowbird Tournament, beginning with Division II Mansfield University and Mt. Aloysius College at 9 and 10:30 a.m., respectively, on Monday.
