Langhauser Homers for 100th Hit as Baseball Splits With Moravian

Bullets 2-2 on Florida Trip

Kevin Langhauser slugged a home run for his 100th career hit.

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Senior Kevin Langhauser homered for his 100th career hit and the Gettysburg College baseball team came away with a split with Moravian College in an offensively-charged doubleheader on the second day of the Bullets Spring Break trip to Florida.

Moravian (2-1) won the first game 9-7 before the Bullets (2-4) won 8-6 in the nightcap.

The twinbill of two seven-inning games featured a combined 35 hits and six home runs, with Gettysburg smacking four long balls.

In the opener, Gettysburg led twice, but the Greyhounds scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 7-6 deficit. Langhauser reached his milestone in the third inning with a solo shot that made it 3-2.

Sophomore Drew Roy also went deep for the Bullets, clouting his second homer of the season, while juniors Matt Karis and Cam Riera each had a double. Karis and Roy each knocked a pair of hits.Gr

Kevin O'Keefe drilled two homers and had seven RBIs for Moravian.

Senior Derek Zaleski started for the Bullets and came away with a no-decision, yielding four run over the first four innings. Freshman Ryan Taylor came on to throw the final two innings and was charged with the loss. In his collegiate debut, Taylor (0-1) gave up five runs while walking two and striking out two.

Ryan Cummings tossed the first five innings for Moravian, leaving with the score tied 6-6. Kyle Longernecker (1-0) finished with the last two frames to earn the win.

Gettysburg scored five times over the first two innings in the nightcap to take an early 5-1 lead. But the 'Hounds cut the gap to 5-4 after the third inning, then went ahead 6-5 with a two-run sixth. However, the Bullets pulled it out with a three-run sixth.

Senior Mike Backus and Karis led the Bullets with home runs while juniors Cory Jackmuff and Chris Simard each doubled.

Senior John Antrim-Cashin started on the mound for the Bullets and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs while walking two and striking out two. Senior Michael Sweeney also hurled 2 2/3 in relief and gave up a pair of runs before giving way to freshman John Donovan, who blanked Moravian over the final 1 2/3 to come away with the win in his collegiate debut.

Moravian went through three pitchers as well, with reliever Brandon Palmisano (0-1) absorbing the loss.

Gettysburg plays its fifth game in three days on Tuesday, when it takes on Emory & Henry College at noon in a nine-inning game.
