Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y. – Farmingdale State College scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner in the 87th minute, to hand Gettysburg its first loss 2-1 in women's soccer action at the William Smith Cup on Saturday.

Farmingdale State (5-0-0), a participant in the NCAA Tournament last fall, maintained its unbeaten record by halting Gettysburg's (3-1-0) longest win streak since 2006. Yvonne Santos booted in the eventual game-winner off a free kick at 86:03.

The Bullets held the upper-hand following the first 45 minutes of play, despite a barrage of shots by the Rams. Farmingdale fired 10 shots at the goal, but was unable to penetrate the wall put up by sophomore goalie Katie Burke (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) who made a career-high six saves in the opening period. She smothered the first shot attempt by the Rams at 5:22 and put a stamp on the end of the first stanza with a save 41 seconds before the horn.

Sophomore Lindsey Lyons (Hatfield, Pa./Pennridge) accounted for the first goal of the match in the 27th minute. The Rams' goalie was unable to control the ball and Lyons headed it in for her second goal of the campaign.

Gettysburg tried to extend its lead at the start of the second half, forcing five corner kicks and five shots. The Bullets came up empty, however, with new Farmingdale keeper Stacey Rao stopping a pair of shots by Lyons.

The Rams turned in the equalizer 40 seconds after an offside call on Gettysburg as Katrina Cerverizzo went top-shelf at 71:56.

Lyons just missed another goal by hitting the post in the 79th minute. The Rams held the advantage during the remaining time, taking four consecutive shots, the last by Santos proving to be the difference.

Farmingdale State held a 16-10 lead in shots, but Gettysburg held the lead in corner kicks 5-1.

Junior goalkeeper Allie Rivera (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) took the loss after subbing in at halftime.

Gettysburg remains in Geneva for another day as the Bullets face Denison University (2-2-1) tomorrow (Sept. 12) at 11 a.m.
