GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Sarah Cole tallied two goals and one assist and the Gettysburg College field hockey team opened its Centennial Conference (CC) schedule with a 3-0 victory over 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins University Saturday morning at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Bullets (3-2, 1-0 CC) won their CC opener for the first time since 2006, when it topped Swarthmore College 2-1. Gettysburg also snapped a six-game losing streak to Johns Hopkins (1-4, 0-1 CC), picking up its first win over the Blue Jays since 2005.

Gettysburg, which outshot Johns Hopkins 12-4, received all the scoring it would need just over five minutes into the game, when Cole dribbled in from the top before rolling in a shot to the goalie's right. Then with just over 15 minutes left in the half, Cole delivered a quick pass to the right post, where senior Annie Marosits tapped in her first goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game at the intermission.

Cole set the final score with 3:05 left. Following a corner, senior Alyssa Heimbach delivered a pass from the top of the circle before Cole gathered it in front of the cage and drilled in her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore Megan Feeg needed to make just two saves to earn her first collegiate shutout for the Bullets. Kim Stein stopped four shots for the Blue Jays.

Gettysburg concludes its four-game homestand on Wednesday, when it takes on No. 5 Lebanon Valley College at 4:30 p.m.
