HAVERFORD, Pa. – Juliana Morgan-Trostle scored the game-winning goal with 1:01 left and host Haverford College defeated Gettysburg 5-4 in a Centennial Conference field hockey tilt Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-1 midway through the opening half, Gettysburg (3-3, 1-1 CC) tied it three times before Morgan-Trostle's goal.
Sophomore Heyward Sawers led the Bullets with two goals while freshmen
Liz Baron and
Kelly Spieker each scored their first collegiate goal.
Alex Waleko led Haverford (5-2, 1-1 CC) with three goals and one assist.
Baron gave the Bullets their only lead of the game when she scored 6:42 into the second half. But Waleko notched back-to-back tallies 3:27 apart to put the Fords up 2-1 with 21:21 left in the opening period.
Spieker tied it up with 9:41 on the clock to make it 2-2 at the half.
After Mary Hobbs scored with 18:33 left, Sawers struck for the first time, locking it at 3-3 with 15:34 to go. Waleko made it a hat trick with 8:04 remaining, but Sawers answered with 3:42 to go before Morgan-Trostle's game-winner.
Maggie Cronin finished with eight saves for Haverford while sophomore
Megan Feeg turned aside six shots for the Bullets.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, when it visits Franklin & Marshall College in another Centennial Conference game starting at 4:30 p.m.
