Gettysburg drops first conference decision

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Elizabeth Levitan scored in the 97th minute to lift Haverford College to a 1-0 overtime victory over Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (5-3, 1-1 CC) out-shot Haverford (5-2, 2-0 CC) 9-5 in the contest with eight of those attempts coming in the second half. From the 71st to 80th minutes, the Bullets forced a pair of corner kicks and fired off three shots at the cage. Shots by freshman Kaeley McEvoy (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewaug) and sophomore Suzy Englot (Fayetteville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) were saved by goalie Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds, while the third by sophomore Lindsey Lyons (Hatfield, Pa./Pennridge) hit the post.

In the first extra session for either team this fall, Haverford took the only two shots of the period with Levitan ending the match after fielding a pass into the box by Michele Buonora.

Junior goalkeeper Allie Rivera (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) made a pair of saves in the first half in the loss. Both Lyons and first-year Tobi Goss (Sandy Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) recorded a trio of shots for the visitors.

Gettysburg returns to action with a road trip to Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
