Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Freshman Erica Barbuto scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 1:00 left, and the Gettysburg College field hockey team defeated 19th-ranked Franklin & Marshall College 2-1 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

After suffering a last-minute goal at the hands of Haverford College on Saturday, the Bullets (4-3, 2-1 CC) reversed their fortunes and beat their second ranked opponent in their last three completed games. Gettysburg also knocked off No. 20 Johns Hopkins on Sept. 18.

Barbuto put the Bullets on top 1-0 when she scored with just 35 seconds left in the first half, converting on a scramble in front of the cage.

Gettysburg's defense held F&M (5-3, 1-2 CC) to just two shots in the opening period, but the Diplomats came out firing in the second half, when it outshot the Bullets 12-2. Rachel Cooke tied it up with 25:19 on the clock when she scored off an assist from Eileen O'Reilly.

With 1:00 left, Barbuto collected a pass from freshman Liz Baron and, from the right side of the circle, sent home her first collegiate game-winner.

Sophomore Megan Feeg finished with eight saves for Gettysburg while Sarah Dileo had one stop for the Diplomats, who held a 14-6 shot advantage.

Gettysburg plays a ranked opponent for the fourth time in five games when it hosts No. 5 Ursinus College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
