HOMECOMING
Gettysburg is celebrating Homecoming this weekend, and the school's five newest members of the Hall of Athletic Honor - Kristen Hull '95, Catherine Schott '00, Paul Smith '00, Craig Van Tatenhove '65, and Tony Wechter '88 - will be recognized at halftime. The five will be officially inducted into the HOAH Friday night. Two of the new inductees - Smith and Wechter - played football at Gettysburg. Smith was a record-setting tailback and return specialist from 1996-99 while Wechter made his mark as a standout defensive back and return man from 1984-87, helping the Bullets to a pair of conference titles.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Gettysburg leads Ursinus 31-18-4 in the all-time series that dates back to 1903. The Bullets had won six of the last seven meetings prior to the Bears victory last season.
LAST MEETING
In a game that featured a Centennial Conference-record 1,317 yards of total offense, it was a three-yard run by quarterback Justin Decristofaro on a fourth-and-1 with just over two minutes left that clinched the game for Ursinus in Collegeville. The Bears led by 32 points late in the third quarter, only to see the Bullets run off 27 unanswered points in under 11 minutes. But Gettysburg's furious rally would eventually run out of time, as the Bears held on for a 55-50 victory. The 105 total points marked a Centennial Conference record, and the Bullets set both a conference and school record for points scored in a loss.
Matt Flynn '10 led the Bullets by setting school and Centennial records with 519 yards passing, seven touchdown passes, and 522 yards of total offense. Decristofaro finished with 389 yards passing while receiver Nick Giarratano caught 11 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
LAST TIME OUT
Gettysburg rallied from 11 points down with 7:15 left to send the game to overtime, but Muhlenberg College recovered to pull out a 33-27 victory in Allentown on Saturday. Senior
Mike Barrett kicked a 24-yard field goal with nine seconds left to force overtime for Gettysburg, which led 16-6 early in the second half before Muhlenberg answered with 21 unanswered points. Barrett's field goal was set up by a bad Mule snap on a punt that gave the Bullets the ball inside the 10-yard line with 33 seconds to go. But after the Bullets were intercepted on their overtime possession, the Mules threw a touchdown pass on their first offensive play to come away with the win. Senior wing
Charles Curcio led the Bullets offensively, tying a career-high with seven receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown while rushing for an additional 44 yards on eight carries. Junior linebacker
Peter Hak led all players with 12 tackles.
Senior quarterback Justin Decristofaro threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears held the ball for close to 44 minutes in a 24-7 victory over Susquehanna last Saturday in Collegeville. Freshman running back Bryan Ellis ran for 109 yards and a touchdown of his own, as the Bears had 380 yards in total offense. Ursinus led just 7-0 at halftime and 10-0 heading into the third quarter before breaking the game open with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.
