GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team had little trouble opening the season with a pair of victories on the first day of its own Battlefield Classic.
Gettysburg (2-0) swept six sets against Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) College and the University of Scranton. The Bullets took out the Blue Knights 25-10, 25-17, 25-17 and beat down the Royals 25-14, 25-20, 25-16.
The Orange and Blue served up a dozen aces in sweeping Mount Saint Mary. Junior
Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) tallied three aces and a team-high 15 digs, while freshman setter
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) also recorded a trio of aces to go with 29 assists.

Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) paced the attack with nine kills apiece. Freshman

After winning big in the first set with a .414 attack percentage against Scranton, Gettysburg found itself down 7-1 in the second. A quick timeout righted the ship as Gettysburg knocked down a dozen kills in the second frame and took advantage of a slew of unforced errors by the Royals.
Burns chalked up 11 kills in 17 attempts in the nightcap and added a pair of block assists. Yoder posted six kills and three blocks and sophomore
Katie Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md./Covenant Life) put up eight digs.
Gettysburg returns to action on day two of the Battlefield Classic tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Widener University. The Bullets close the weekend Saturday afternoon against Salisbury University at 2 p.m.
