Sarah Cole posted one goal and one assist and the Gettysburg College field hockey team picked up its first victory of the season, as the 20th-ranked Bullets went on the road to defeat York (Pa.) College 3-1 in a non-conference match-up Tuesday afternoon.
Gettysburg (1-1), which held a commanding 17-3 shot advantage, never trailed and scored the game's first three goals. Cole put the Bullets on the scoreboard when she punched in a shot off a scramble in front with 24:08 left in the opening half for her second goal in as many games to open the season.
Senior
Nicole Meredyth gave the Orange & Blue a 2-0 halftime lead when she scored with 12:30 on the clock, taking a feed from freshman
Kelly Spieker and potting her first goal of the season.
The Bullets out-shot the Spartans 10-1 in the opening stanza.
Freshman
Hayward Sawers applied the finishing touches for Gettysburg when she scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Cole with 25:02 left.
York (1-2) avoided the shutout when Sandee Reich scored with 2:42 to go.
Sophomore
Megan Feeg made one save to earn her first collegiate victory in goal for the Bullets while Maggie Schlauch stopped 11 shots for the Spartans.
Gettysburg continues its non-conference schedule on Saturday, when it takes on Cabrini College in the Bullets home opener starting at 1 p.m.
