GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Messiah College scored all eight of its goals over the game's opening 38 minutes and the ninth-ranked Falcons defeated Gettysburg 8-0 in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
In a game played through heavy rain, Kourtney Ehly, Juliana Hershey, and Emily Hursh posted two goals and one assist apiece for Messiah (8-3). Kelly Martin added two assists while Natalie Ziegler contributed one goal and one helper.
Each team played a different goalie each half. Kayleigh Stewart started for the Falcons while Jess Garber played the second half, making Messiah's only two saves. For Gettysburg (4-7), junior
Megan Feeg started and surrendered five first-half goals while making five saves. Sophomore
Alexis Bralow played the second half and finished with three saves while allowing the final three goals.
Ehly scored the only goal Messiah would need 1:20 into the contest. The Falcons then spread out four goals over a 12-minute span midway through the opening stanza to assume a 5-0 halftime lead.
The visitors settled any doubt with a three-goal flurry to start the second half, scoring three times over a 1:15 span.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they host Bryn Mawr College at 4:30 p.m. in a Centennial Conference affair.
