WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior
Casey Attanasio scored a pair of goals to lead the Gettysburg College women's soccer team to a 5-1 win at McDaniel College in Centennial Conference action Wednesday evening.
Gettysburg (9-5, 6-1 CC) maintained its lock on at least second place in the conference standings with its fourth-straight win of the campaign. First-place Johns Hopkins University (13-0, 6-0 CC) squared off with Dickinson College (9-3-1, 5-2 CC) late Wednesday evening.
The Bullets jumped on the board early at McDaniel (2-11, 1-6 CC) as freshman
Molly Phillips netted the opening goal in the 16th minute. Phillips headed in her fourth goal of the year following a corner kick by fellow first-year
Meg Castranova.
Attanasio got into the action later in the period, breaking away from the defense and putting the ball over the Green Terror keeper in the 30th minute. Sophomore
Rachel West set up the score with her third assist this season.
The hosts cut into the lead early in the second stanza as Meghan Sturgill found Kelly Crawford for a header at 46:05. The Bullets answered in quick fashion with sophomore
Becca Kent scoring for the third time in her last four outings in the 53rd minute.
Attanasio attacked the goal for her second score and team-best seventh of the year in the 63rd minute. Junior
Lindsey Lyons set the play with a pass through the defense and Attanasio finished inside the box.
The visitor's final tally came just seconds before the end of the match as freshman
Jill Baltz polished off a corner kick by senior
Lauren Johnson.
Gettysburg finished with a 21-6 advantage in shots and a 13-0 margin in corner kicks.
Senior
Allie Rivera played the first 68:14 in goal and made one save. Freshman
Paige Della Badia finished out the match without seeing a shot on goal.
Gettysburg resumes play on Saturday, Oct. 22, with a home match up against Muhlenberg College at 4 p.m.
