GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team is headed to the postseason, that much is certain, but the Bullets are far from done as they continued their bid for the top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Muhlenberg College Saturday inside Bream Gym.
Muhlenberg (6-17, 4-5 CC) did not catch Gettysburg (18-8, 8-0 CC) looking ahead to its final week when the team plays fellow unbeaten Johns Hopkins University (18-4, 7-0 CC) and third-place Franklin & Marshall College (14-10, 7-1 CC). The Bullets handled the Mules 25-9 and 25-10 in the opening-two frames before erasing a 12-2 deficit to take the final set 25-23.
Sophomore setter
Lizzy Kuhn posted eight service aces in the opening set and finished with a career-high 10 for the match. Kuhn narrowly missed a triple-double, adding 15 assists and seven digs.
Senior
Virginia Hogan helped fuel the comeback in the finale by serving five consecutive points, including a pair of aces, to cut the margin to 12-8. Hogan put down a kill later in the frame to tie it at 19 before Muhlenberg posted the next two points. The teams would exchange points until freshman
Cydney Bracken completed the comeback with the final two kills.
Bracken paced Gettysburg with a match-high 10 kills. Hogan added eight and sophomore
Sarah Gorski tallied seven kills with four blocks.
Senior
Rebecca Rubenstein posted 14 digs to lead the defense, while sophomore
Courtney Cyr logged five total blocks.
Gettysburg visits both Franklin & Marshall and Johns Hopkins in the final week of the regular season. The Bullets face the Diplomats on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. before closing the year at Goldfarb Gym on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m.
