LANCASTER, Pa. – Fighting for a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs, the Gettysburg College field hockey team was unable to gain any ground Wednesday night, falling to seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall College 5-0.
The Diplomats (14-2, 9-0 CC), who clinched the regular season title and home field in the conference tournament, outshot the Bullets 15-8 and held a 6-5 edge in penalty corners.
Gettysburg (7-8, 5-4 CC) now finds itself in a logjam in the middle of the conference standings. The Bullets are in a four-way tie for fourth place, and six teams are competing for the last three playoff spots. The top five teams make the Centennial Conference tournament.
Becky Willert gave F&M all the scoring it would need when she scored a pair of first-half goals, upping her conference-leading total to 25. In the second half, Kristen Zublin scored a pair of goals sandwiched around a Steph McDonald tally.
Junior
Megan Feeg played the opening 55:08 and made four saves for the Bullets while allowing three goals. Sophomore
Alexis Bralow made one save while yielding the final two goals.
Senior defender
Megan Bernstein made a defensive save to extend her career school record to 16.
The Bullets close the regular season on Saturday, when they visit Johns Hopkins at 5 p.m.
