SALISBURY, Md. – The Gettysburg College softball team won one of four games at the Salisbury University Invitational, earning its first victory of the 2011 campaign with a 5-0 win over Wilkes University on Saturday.
Gettysburg (1-3) faced a tough road at Salisbury, losing to three teams that were already a combined 24-6 on the season heading into the weekend. The Bullets dropped 10-1 and 10-0 losses to Virginia Wesleyan College and No. 22 Christopher Newport University, respectively, on Friday before falling 5-1 to Lynchburg College to close the tournament.
The Bullets picked up their first victory of the year with a 5-0 win over Wilkes University to start play on Saturday. Junior
Lanie Parr (Washington, D.C./Academy of Holy Cross) paved the way by allowing just two hits while striking out nine for her first victory of the year.
Offensively, Gettysburg scored its runs in the opening two innings. Junior
Adrienne Rahs (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) went 2-for-2 with one run and two RBI, while sophomore
Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) tacked on a hit, a walk, and two runs scored. Senior
Megan Lott (Beltsville, Pa./Palloti) scored two runs and stole one base.
Gettysburg continues its spring break trip at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Bullets take on Gordon College in a doubleheader on Monday, March 14, at 9 a.m.
