GRANTHAM, Pa. – Thunderstorms delayed the start of Wednesday's men's soccer match between Gettysburg and Messiah, but when the weather cleared the second-ranked Falcons were off and running, sending the visiting Bullets away with a 5-0 loss.
Gettysburg (1-3) held Messiah (4-0-1) off the scoreboard for most of the first half until a three-goal flurry with less than 10 minutes remaining in the stanza. Aaron Myers started the run at 36:10 and just 1:09 later Brian Ramirez lit the lamp via a penalty kick. Ramirez added another goal at the 40-minute mark to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Falcons posted 10 more shots in the final period with Danny Thompson and Jeremy Payne finding the back of the net in the 55th and 86th minutes, respectively.
Gettysburg junior
Craig Heckman posted the team's only shot on goal in the 58th minute but it was stopped by Jake Berry.
Messiah out-shot Gettysburg 18-6 and took twice as many corner kicks (8-4).
The Bullets will try to end a three-match skid with the start of Centennial Conference play on Friday, Sept. 16. Gettysburg will travel to Ursinus College for a 7 p.m. contest.
