COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to third-ranked Ursinus College in its Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
Playing their third straight road game, the Bullets (2-2, 0-1 CC) nearly matched the Bears (5-0, 2-0 CC) for shots in the opening half, with Ursinus holding a slim 9-7 advantage. However, the hosts received three goals from three different players to build a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Ursinus went on to outshoot the Bullets 15-8 in the second half while tacking on two more goals.
Catherine Bitterly scored twice to lead the Bears while Paige McEhlhenny made four saves. Junior
Megan Feeg stopped six shots for Gettysburg.
The Bullets continue their Centennial Conference schedule on Wednesday, when they host Dickinson College at 4 p.m.
