GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gussie Reilly scored a penalty-stroke goal with 3:03 left in the game and Washington College handed Gettysburg a 2-1 setback in Centennial Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
The Shorewomen (3-4, 2-1 CC) never trailed after Claire McAuliffe scored 2:54 into the game. Sophomore
Kelly Spieker tied it with 15:36 left in the opening half, tipping in a shot off the stick of senior
Sarah Cole from the right post for her third goal of the season.
Washington turned up the heat late in the game, taking eight of their 15 shots inside the final 5:12. Junior
Megan Feeg stood tall, however, making six of her nine stops during the flurry before Reilly was awarded her penalty stroke.
The Bullets (3-3, 1-2 CC) outshot Washington 18-15, but Stephanie Harryman made seven saves. Gettysburg held a 16-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday, when it visits Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference outing at 4 p.m.
