Cydney Bracken and senior
Virginia Hogan combined for 25 kills and 10 aces as the Gettysburg College volleyball team swept Washington College 3-0 in a Centennial Conference match Tuesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.
The Bullets (10-6, 2-0 CC) trailed for just three points on the evening and won by scores of 25-14, 25-9, and 25-16.
Bracken finished with 13 kills and six aces while hitting .429 for the match. Hogan notched 12 kills, four aces, and six digs.
Gettysburg never trailed in the opening set, in which it hit .414. The Bullets raced out to an 11-2 lead in the second stanza, capped by a 7-0 run with senior
Katie McConville serving. The Shorewomen (7-6, 0-3 CC) took their first lead of the match at 6-5 in the third set, and it was 8-6 in favor of Washington before Gettysburg answered with a 3-0 spurt. It was just a 13-11 Bullet lead before the hosts used a 5-1 surge to open up some breathing room, getting four kills during the stretch.
Senior
Rebecca Rubenstein finished with nine digs for Gettysburg while sophomores
Lizzy Kuhn (17 assists) and
Nicole Petrillo (11 assists) shared time at setter.
Lauren White had 12 assists and eight digs for Washington, which hit .119.
Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Saturday, when it travels to St. Mary's (Md.) College to face Hood College at 3 p.m. and St. Mary's at 5 p.m.
