GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Centennial Conference play following a 0-0 tie with Johns Hopkins University Wednesday afternoon at Clark Field.
The Bullets (4-3-1, 2-0-1 CC), who came into the match in a three-way tie with Hopkins and Dickinson for first place in the conference standings, held slim advantages in shots (15-14) and corners (7-6). However, both teams had trouble getting on target with just a combined five shots on goal for the game.
Sophomore
Connor Darrell finished with three saves for Gettysburg to earn his third shutout of the season, all of which have come in the last four matches. Freshman Nick Cerrone stopped two shots for the Blue Jays (4-2-3, 2-0-1 CC).
Hopkins outshot the Bullets 12-11 in regulation and took the only two shots of the first overtime. But Gettysburg attempted all four shots in the second overtime and had a pair of golden opportunities. However, sophomore
Tyler Shaffer had his 96th-minute shot ring off the left post, and just before the final horn, a header in the box from freshman
Parker Delmolino sailed wide left.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. for an away date with Dickinson, which defeated McDaniel 4-1 on Wednesday.
