GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the second consecutive day, Gettysburg mowed down its opening opponent only to run into a road block as the Bullets swept the University of Scranton before succumbing in three sets to seventh-ranked Eastern University inside Bream Gym.
Gettysburg (2-2) ran away late from Scranton (2-2) in the opening set and after a convincing 10-point win in the second frame, the Bullets held off a late charge in the third to take the match 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18.
A well-rounded attack was led by freshman
Cydney Bracken with nine kills and senior
Virginia Hogan added eight. Hogan also served up five aces.
Senior libero
Rebecca Rubenstein, who was tabbed to the all-tournament team, put up 18 digs for the Bullets.
After handing head coach Mark Birtwistle his 500th career victory with a sweep of Scranton, seventh-ranked Eastern (4-0) put any hopes of any upset at the hands of Gettysburg to rest with a 25-15, 25-10, 25-11 win to close out the tournament.
Sophomore
Sarah Gorski paced Gettysburg with six kills and Bracken contributed five. Rubenstein added 10 digs.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7, with a home affair against Susquehanna University at 7:30 p.m.
