GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Caitlin Aversa scored with just 2:45 left in double-overtime to lift visiting York (Pa.) College to a 1-0 victory at Gettysburg College on Wednesday night.

Playing its third consecutive double-overtime affair and sixth of the season, York (6-1-5) survived a 22-shot barrage by Gettysburg (8-4). The Bullets challenged the goal in each period with three shots on the cage in regulation turned away by Melanie Glessner.

The hosts just missed ending the match in the first overtime as senior Casey Attanasio hit the crossbar in the 96th minute. Freshman Melissa Seidner corralled the rebound in front of the cage, but her shot was stopped by Glessner inside the right post.

The Bullets fired off two shots in the second overtime with Glessner, the national leader in both goals against average and save percentage, recording her fifth and final save on an attempt by Brigid Behan in the 104th minute. The Spartans made their way up the field to the offensive zone and set up for a throw-in from the right side.

Clare Chatham heaved the ball to the edge of the box where it was touched back by Jena Arnister. Aversa stepped up and kicked the ball into the left corner for the game-winner at 107:15.

Junior Tobi Goss and sophomore Mary Kamovitch each posted four shots for Gettysburg. Freshman Eliza Gray picked up two saves in the loss.

Gettysburg travels to Bryn Mawr College for a Centennial Conference contest on Saturday, Oct. 13, beginning at noon.
