Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Lauren Schapiro scored in the 41st minute to lift the Gettysburg College women's soccer team to a 1-0 Centennial Conference win over Franklin & Marshall College on a mild Wednesday evening at Clark Field.

The Bullets (12-4, 8-1 CC), who earned their fourth straight shutout victory along with their seventh consecutive conference win, will now host 24th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday to determine the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament. The Blue Jays, tied with Gettysburg atop the conference standings, defeated McDaniel College 5-0 Wednesday night.

Gettysburg outshot the Diplomats 21-2 but Amanda McGowan made 10 saves for F&M (2-6-6, 1-4-4 CC). Freshman Eliza Gray stopped one shot to pick up her seventh shutout of the year for the Bullets.

It was the third goal in the last three matches for Schapiro, who also scored both of Gettysburg's goals in its 2-0 win over McDaniel last Wednesday.

The Bullets, who reached the 12-win mark for the third straight season, outshot F&M 12-1 in the opening stanza but were unable to dent McGowan until their 11th shot of the night. That's when senior Casey Attanasio passed the ball down into the center of the box, where Schapiro turned and fired a shot inside the lower right post for her fifth goal of the season, tying her for the team lead.

McGowan finished with seven saves in the opening period.

Gettysburg continued its pressure in the second half, when it held a 9-1 shot advantage. McGowan made an excellent save in the 59th minute, leaping high to deflect another well-struck ball from Schapiro over the net. She would make two more stops before the end of the game.

The Bullets held possession for the majority of the night, but F&M pushed the ball into Bullet territory inside the final minute. However, the Diplomats were unable to attempt a shot.

Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins will kick off at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Clark Field.
