Bullets, Red Devils Meet in Battle for Bucket

Gettysburg Seeking to Go 7-2

OPENING KICK
Gettysburg (6-2, 5-2 CC) takes to the road for the final time this season as it visits the Dickinson College Red Devils (3-5, 3-4 CC) on Friday at 7 p.m. in the battle for the Little Brown Bucket, which was first presented in 1938 by trustees of the two schools.

QUICK HITS
1. The Bullets enter the game locked in a three-way tie with Muhlenberg College and Franklin & Marshall College for second place in the Centennial Conference standings at 5-2.

SERIES HISTORY
Gettysburg holds a 41-34-2 lead in the all-time series that started in 1892. The Bullets have played the Red Devils more times than any other school besides Franklin & Marshall.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior quarterback Kody Smith racked up a career-high 359 total yards and contributed to three touchdowns, leading Gettysburg to a 42-20 Centennial Conference victory over Moravian on Saturday. Smith rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns while passing for a season-high 232 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, senior linebacker Larry DelViscio made a game-high 15 tackles, including 3.0 for loss. Six Bullets accounted for a season-high six sacks, and Gettysburg also came up with five takeaways and scored a defensive touchdown on junior linebacker Cody DiAmore's 33-yard interception return.

Dickinson suffered a 61-21 loss at home to Muhlenberg on Saturday. The Red Devils were hurt by turnovers, giving the ball away six times on five interceptions and one fumble. The Mules, who outgained Dickinson 591-283, scored 24 points off turnovers. Senior receiver Matt Wood was a bright spot for the Devils, catching five passes for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior linebacker Shane Mitchell made nine tackles to lead the Dickinson defense.

LAST YEAR'S MATCHUP
Corwyn Gordon blocked a potential game-tying extra point with 46 seconds left and Dickinson edged Gettysburg 21-20 to win back the Little Brown Bucket. After quarterback Kody Smith scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, Gordon got his hand on the point-after attempt. The ball fluttered in the air before bouncing off the crossbar and back into the end zone. The Red Devils then recovered an on-side kick attempt and ran out the rest of the clock. Tailback Ted Delia rushed for 86 yards while wing back Jon Pesce scored a pair of touchdowns - one rushing and one receiving - for Gettysburg. Wideout Aden Twer caught six passes for 78 yards for the Bullets and became just the second player in school history to exceed 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Mike Shimkin (139 yards) and Kyle Smith (115 yards) each rushed for over 100 yards for Dickinson.

AMONG THE NCAA LEADERS
In addition to its No. 7 rushing offense (298.0 ypg), Gettysburg ranks 14th in Division III in scoring offense (40.1 ppg), 15th in sacks (3.25 spg), 16th in kick return average (23.8), 22nd in total offense (467.1 ypg), 44th in total defense (304.1), and 47th in scoring defense (18.1 ppg). Individually, senior linebacker Larry DelViscio is 11th in tackles (12.3 tpg) while senior tailback Ted Delia is tied for 15th in points per game (10.5). In addition, junior Tommy LeNoir is 41st in punt return average (9.8 ypr), senior safety Drew Olsen is tied for 49th in interceptions per game (0.50), and senior defensive end Chris Nolan is tied for 50th in sacks per game (0.75).

THE GETTYSBURG OFFENSE
Gettysburg, which ran for four touchdowns against Moravian, has now tied the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a regular season with 33. Senior quarterback Kody Smith has taken over as the team's leading rusher at 76.9 yards per game. He has also scrambled for 10 touchdowns, tying the school record for the most by a quarterback in a season. Senior tailback Ted Delia has added 72.8 yards per game and 14 touchdowns - one shy of the school record - while sophomore tailback Eddie Hutchins has contributed with 53.5 yards per game and five touchdowns. Smith has also passed for 180.5 yards per game and 11 touchdowns against six interceptions. The Bullets have utilized an incredibly deep receiving corps, with 15 different players making a reception this season. Four players have made over 10 catches, with junior receiver Aden Twer posting 18 receptions for 38.1 yards per game and three touchdowns. Senior wideout Kyle Davis has also grabbed 18 passes for 29.4 yards per game and a pair of touchdowns while freshman wing Kevin McCarthy has contributed 12 receptions for 11.9 yards per game and a TD. Senior tight end Matt Brophy has added 10 catches for 28.0 yards per game and three TDs.

THE GETTYSBURG DEFENSE
Coming off their six-sack performance against Moravian, the Bullets have now gotten to the quarterback 26 times this season, the most since the 2007 team posted 29 sacks over 11 games. Twelve different players have contributed to the sack attack, with senior defensive ends Chris Nolan (6.0) and Joe Ventresca (5.5) leading the way. Senior linebacker Larry DelViscio has piled up 51 tackles over his last three games and leads the team with 98 hits, including 6.5 for loss, while senior defensive end Mark Covington has made a team-leading 9.5 tackles for loss. Freshman linebacker Kodie McNamara is second on the team with 64 tackles while junior linebacker Cody DiAmore has registered 62 stops. Senior safety Drew Olsen leads the Bullets with four interceptions.

THE GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMS
Freshman Robby Fay continues to serve all three of the team's kicking duties on kickoffs, field goals/extra points, and punts. He has converted 41-of-44 extra points (including his last 29), made his only field-goal attempt, and has averaged 33.7 yards on 18 punts. Junior Tommy LeNoir has made 19 of Gettysburg's 22 punt returns for an 9.8-yard average while junior Aden Twer has handled the bulk of the kick returns, averaging 19.5 yards on 13 returns.

SCOUTING DICKINSON
After opening the season 2-1, the Red Devils have lost four of their last five games. Like the Bullets, Dickinson's leading rusher is a quarterback, as sophomore Cole Ahnell has run for 31.1 yards per game while passing for 124.4 yards per outing to go with six touchdowns and eight interceptions. Senior wideout Matt Wood has enjoyed a productive season, making 28 receptions for 70.9 yards per game and seven touchdowns. Defensively, junior linebacker Shane Mitchell has led the team with 65 tackles while junior defensive lineman Walker Moriarty has added 6.5 sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
For the third time this season and the fifth time in his career, senior linebacker Larry DelViscio has earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week. He was honored for his performance against Moravian in which he made 15 tackles, including 10 solo stops and 3.0 tackles for loss.

IN THE ZONE
Gettysburg has been nearly unstoppable in the red zone this season, scoring on a conference-leading 90.2 percent (37-41) of its trips inside the opponents' 20-yard line. The Bullets are a perfect 14-for-14 in the red zone over their last three games, and in their last two outings they have scored a touchdown on all nine of their RZ opportunities.

NEW WEEK, NEW LINE
The Bullets will start their sixth different offensive line this season due to injuries. Freshman Pierce Frauenheim will make his first collegiate start at left tackle while sophomore Danny Collins will move from left tackle to right tackle, replacing injured senior Jake Treinish. It will be the third different starting position for Collins, who has also started at left tackle and right guard.

THE COACHES
Gettysburg is coached by Barry Streeter, now in his 34th year at the helm of the Bullets. With 173 career victories, Streeter is tied for 10th among active Division III coaches in wins. He is also tied for 21st on the all-time Division III coaches win list. Streeter, who owns a career record of 173-164-5, is Gettysburg's all-time winningest and longest-tenured football coach in program history. In addition, his 104 Centennial Conference football wins are second in conference history.

The Red Devils are coached by Darwin Breaux, now in his 20th season at Dickinson. A one-time assistant under Streeter at Gettysburg, Breaux has guided the Red Devils to a record of 120-82-1 and ?ve postseason appearances, including an ECAC bowl victory and the NCAA playoffs in 2006.
