Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Michael Stewart scored in the 102nd minute to send visiting Swarthmore College past Gettysburg College 1-0 in a Centennial Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg (4-6-1, 0-4-1 CC) and Swarthmore (8-1-1, 4-0-1 CC), ranked 18th in the latest D3Soccer.com national poll, turned in a defensive struggle amidst windy conditions at Clark Field. Junior Connor Darrell kept the visitors off the board with a pair of saves in the opening half, including a diving stop on a penalty-kick shot by Jack Momeyer in the 37th minute.

Darrell picked up two more saves in the second half as the two sides struggled to find clean looks at the cage. Gettysburg equaled Swarthmore's second-half shot total with four, and posted two more in the first overtime period. Junior Tyler Shaffer came up with the Bullets' lone shot on goal which was stopped by goalie Peter Maxted just inside the left post in the 97th minute.

The Garnet didn't waste much time in the second extra session, scoring 1:54 into the period. Noah Sterngold threaded a pass through the defense to Stewart who was open down the right side of the field. He fired the shot past a diving Darrell into the left side of the net for his team-best seventh goal of the year.

Swarthmore finished with 11-6 and 6-3 advantages in shots and corner kicks.

Gettysburg visits York (Pa.) College for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m.
