Tara Crowley scored her second game-winning goal of the season on Saturday.
Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Tara Crowley scored in the 44th minute to lead Gettysburg College to a key 1-0 victory at Swarthmore College in Centennial Conference women's soccer action Saturday night.

With the victory, Gettysburg (8-3, 4-1 CC) knocked Swarthmore (6-4, 3-2 CC) out of a tie for first place in the conference standings. The Bullets remained tied with Johns Hopkins University (9-2-1, 4-1 CC) for the top spot following the Blue Jays' 6-0 win over Ursinus College on Saturday.

Gettysburg has shown a flair for the dramatic as Saturday marked its eighth one-goal decision already this fall. Beginning with a shot by senior Lindsey Lyons in the third minute, the Bullets turned in six shots on goal in the opening half, but each attempt was stopped by goalie Reba Magier.

The visitors broke into the scoring column shortly after Magier's sixth save of the first period as a pass by Lyons deflected off a defender to Crowley on the left wing. The junior fired a shot over the keeper into the far post for her third goal, and second game-winner, of the season at 43:31.

The stout Gettysburg defense did not allow Swarthmore many looks at the cage, and when it did, freshman Eliza Gray was there to prevent the score. The first-year keeper made three of her four saves in the final period en route to her fourth shutout of the year. Gray lowered her conference-leading goals against average to 0.40 with the shutout.

Gettysburg led in shots 11-9, but Swarthmore held the edge in corner kicks 9-7.

Lyons, junior Tobi Goss, and sophomore Brigid Behan each finished with two shots for the visitors.

Gettysburg faces York (Pa.) College in a non-conference affair at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
