BALTIMORE – Larisa Antonisse scored in the 58th minute to lift Haverford College to a 1-0 victory over Gettysburg College in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Championship hosted by Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
With the victory, Haverford (14-3-2) will square off with host Johns Hopkins (15-3-1) for the conference title on Sunday. Gettysburg's (12-6) postseason hopes now rest with the NCAA Selection Committee. The committee will make its official announcement of the national playoff field on Monday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.
Gettysburg held the advantage in shots (11-7) and corner kicks (9-2), but the Bullets could not find the way into the goal against the Haverford defense. Ford goalie Robin Chernow posted three of her five saves in the opening half, including stopping shots by sophomore
Molly Phillips in the 30th and 35th minutes.
After emerging from half time without a score, the Bullets took a pair of early shots at the cage with Chernow stopping both senior
Casey Attanasio and junior
Tobi Goss.
Haverford finally cracked the scoring column just over 12 minutes into the final period. Phoebe Miller set the stage with a cross from near the right corner into the middle of the box. Antonisse picked up the pass and touched it with her left foot just past Gettysburg goalie
Eliza Gray into the left side of the cage at 57:37.
Gray kept the Bullets close with three of her five saves over the final 26 minutes of play, but Gettysburg was unable to translate the defense to offense, going without a shot over the same time frame.
Goss and Phillips each finished with three shots for Gettysburg, while Miller matched that total for the Fords.
