NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team will begin the defense of its national title against Cabrini College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday, May 9, at 3 p.m. on Clark Field.
Gettysburg (17-1) advanced to the national playoffs for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons and will host a postseason game for the ninth time in those appearances. The Bullets received an automatic bid to the tournament after winning its seventh Centennial Conference championship last week.
The Orange and Blue will face a somewhat familiar opponent in Cabrini (10-8, 7-1 CC), the champion out of the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Cavaliers won their final six games of the season, including victories over Gwynedd-Mercy College (16-13) and Marywood University (19-16) in the CSAC Tournament. Cabrini will be making its ninth appearance in the national playoffs.
Gettysburg has faced Cabrini five times on the lacrosse field, all since the 2005 season. The Bullets have won all of those contests handily, putting up at least 20 goals each time. The two teams last met in 2010 with Gettysburg handing Cabrini a 20-3 setback.
Gettysburg has advanced to the national semifinals in five of the last six seasons, culminating in the institution's first-ever NCAA team title in 2011. The Bullets defeated Adrian College 25-10 in the opening round of last season's tournament.
Adrian (16-2) qualified for the postseason once again and could draw a rematch with Gettysburg in the second round, but first the Bulldogs must get by North Coast Athletic Conference champion Denison University (14-4). In the other half of the regional bracket, Middlebury College (12-4) will face Norwich University (13-1) and Montclair State University (13-5) will face York (Pa.) College (14-4).
The winning teams in the aforementioned first-round games will advance to the regionals set for May 12-13 at a site to be determined.
