Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Melissa Seidner made her collegiate debut a memorable one, scoring in the 60th minute to lift the Gettysburg College women's soccer team past Lebanon Valley College 1-0 on the first day of the Gettysburg Cup Friday evening at Clark Field.
From the left side of the box, Seidner collected a deflected save by Lebanon Valley goalkeeper Sami Young, who had stopped a blast from junior
Rachel West on the right wing. Seidner booted it past an LVC defender and high into the net for what held up as the game-winner.
Seidner's tally was a part of a strong second half for the Bullets. After the Flying Dutchmen outshot Gettysburg 8-6 in the first half, the Orange & Blue held the Valley to just one shot in the second period and finished with an 11-9 advantage.
Freshman
Eliza Gray, also making her Bullet debut, made three saves to earn the shutout. Young also made three saves for the Dutchmen, who were coming off a 13-6-3 season in 2011.
Earlier in the day, Stevenson University defeated St. Mary's (Md.) College 4-1 in the first match of the Gettysburg Cup, which concludes on Saturday. Stevenson and Lebanon Valley meet at 4 p.m. before the Bullets host Stevenson at 7 p.m.
